Blitz Society
Paris
2021
The Blitz Society chess bar in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés echoes the legendary Chess Forum in New York. Tucked away on a tiny street, inside a 15th-century building with stone walls, exposed beams, and an ancient door, Sandra Benhamou chose not to alter this original structure to give the impression that the place has always existed. She designed very minimalist game tables. On the melamine tops, the chessboard is green and white. Professional. The chairs are vintage finds, and the bar is as simple as it is welcoming. People come here as much to play as to have a drink while keeping an eye on the games in progress. Mission accomplished.
